Task 9_Life in the Past

Gambar
Throughout history, human societies have undergone significant transformations, from the emergence of ancient civilizations to the Industrial Revolution and beyond. As a result, life in the past was marked by a great deal of diversity, both across time periods and geographical regions. While it is difficult to generalize about life in the past, there are some common threads that can be observed. One of the defining features of life in the past was the prevalence of hierarchies and social structures that determined a person's place in society. In ancient civilizations such as those in Egypt, Greece, and Rome, social classes were often based on birth and were reinforced by laws and customs. Slavery was also common during this time, with many societies relying on enslaved individuals for labor in agriculture, mining, and other industries. The Middle Ages in Europe were marked by feudalism, a system in which the king granted land to lords in exchange for their loyalty and service. Peas...

Task 3_Cities

Almost Half of the World Lives in Cities According to OECD.org The population living in cities, high density places of at least 50,000 inhabitants, has more than doubled over the last 40 years, going from 1.5 billion in 1975 to 3.5 billion in 2015. Almost half the world’s population (48%) lives in cities, a quarter live in rural areas (24%), and the remaining people live in towns & semi-dense areas (28%). While the proportion of city dwellers has consistently grown, it remains lowest in low income countries. In these countries, the population share of rural areas is still highest, representing 28% of the population, but it is shrinking faster than elsewhere. Globally, urbanization is spreading. Towns are increasingly growing into cities and suburbs are being absorbed by expanding cities. What Does the Future Hold for City and Rural Populations? Until 2050, city populations are projected to keep rapidly growing, from 3.5 billion in 2015 to 5 billion in 2050, which corresponds to an ...

Task 2_Communication

Gambar
Every culture around the world has different customs and ways of communicating. When you learn to communicate in a language, you learn a lot of rules. You learn what kind of greetings to use in different situations. For example, in English, we say "Hi!" in an informal situation. In a more formal situation, we shake hands and say "How do you do?" In China, a traditional greeting is "Have you eaten today?" After that, there are rules for making small talk when you meet a new person. People in different cultures also have different ways of using their bodies to communicate. But there's one kind of communication that's the same everywhere. A smile can always connect people. Language is one of the features of humanity that sets the species apart from others on Earth, as far as scientists are aware. Languages are necessarily systematic, meaning that they are bound by rules. This mechanism has been instrumental in allowing humans to communicate with each ...

Task 1_Food From The Earth

Gambar
Apart from plants, animals and animals, we see different things around us. We see the sun, moon and stars in the sky. But there was a time when these things were not there. That time was before the Big Bang event. At that time there was neither time nor space. 12 to 14 billion years ago, our entire universe was confined to a single point. Now the biggest question is that when nothing existed in the world, how did so many things come into existence?  We will try to answer these questions through Big Bang theory. Big Bang      The Big Bang theory was proposed by Georges Lemaître in 1927. In 1929, a scientist named Edwin Hubble analyzed and studied this theory. Stephen Hawking explained it like this, about 15 billion years ago, the entire universe was reduced to a single point. Or simply understand that the particles and energy due to which the creation of the whole world became possible, were included in a small ball-like thing. Then suddenly an event happened and the ...

Task 7_Luxuries

Gambar
In economics, a luxury good (or upmarket good) is a good for which demand increases more than what is proportional as income rises, so that expenditures on the good become a greater proportion of overall spending. Luxury goods are in contrast to necessity goods, where demand increases proportionally less than income. Luxury goods is often used synonymously with superior goods. Definition and etymology The word "luxury" derives from the Latin verb luxor meaning to overextend or strain. From this the noun luxuria and verb luxurio developed, "indicating immoderate growth, swelling, ... in persons and animals, willful or unruly behavior, disregard for moral restraints, and licensciousness", and the term has had negative connotations for most of its long history. One definition in the OED is a "thing desirable but not necessary". A luxury good can be identified by comparing the demand for the good at one point in time against the demand for the good at a differ...

A transition is any event in life that alters your plans, your place in that plan, or your sense of purpose. Transitions can be stressful, and come with feelings of fear, anxiety, and anger. Coping mechanisms and self-care can help you navigate life transitions successfully. It may be cliché, but if there’s one constant in life, it’s change. We all change as we get older and go through different seasons in life. But that change, and the transitions it brings, can be really stressful. While transitions can be stressful, apprehension about the transition can even be scarier than the change itself. But by recognizing the transition period you’re in, understanding why it’s challenging for you, and having coping mechanisms to get through it, you can learn to successfully navigate the various transitions in your life. Typical Feelings During a Major Life Transition All of it brings a level of uncertainty that’s roiling with a gamut of uncomfortable feelings, thoughts and physical se...

Task 5_Challenges

Gambar
From time to time, we face smaller or bigger obstacles in our life. All people need to deal with challenges and failures on their way, and their attitude towards those challenges plays the most important part. The person with positive attitude towards obstacles gradually becomes stronger and more successful. And in contrary, the person with negative attitude becomes more and more depressed, weak and unhappy. Here is a story about an inspiring challenge. Mbah Sadiman, the Figure Behind the 11,000 Plants on the Slopes of Mount Lawu. Sadiman or familiarly called Mbah Sadiman (68) is a figure who is still active in protecting and caring for the environment around the slopes of Mount Lawu, Central Java. Even though he is no longer young, this does not prevent him from continuing to contribute to protecting the environment. For more than 20 years or since 1996, Sadiman has devoted himself as a silent worker in restoring ecosystems on the slopes of Mount Lawu. At least 250 hectares of land in...

Task 4_The Body

Gambar
The human body is made up of all the living and nonliving components that create the entire structure of the human organism, including every living cell, tissue and organ. On the outside human anatomy consists of the five basic parts, the head, neck, torso, arms and legs. However, beneath the skin there are countless biological and chemical interactions that keep the human body machine ticking over. For the human body to exist on its own as a self-sustaining entity, it is made of eleven elements in total as macro and micro constituents or nutrients. The first six major elements are carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, calcium and phosphorus. The next five elements in minute requirements are potassium, magnesium, sulfur, sodium and chlorine. A deficiency in any of these nutrients will result in acute health problems. Rickets is caused by lack of calcium and phosphorus. Goiter as the enlargement of the thyroid gland is caused by a lack of the element iodine. Sickle cell anemia is ca...
