Task 5_Challenges
From time to time, we face smaller or bigger obstacles in our life. All people need to deal with challenges and failures on their way, and their attitude towards those challenges plays the most important part. The person with positive attitude towards obstacles gradually becomes stronger and more successful. And in contrary, the person with negative attitude becomes more and more depressed, weak and unhappy.
Here is a story about an inspiring challenge.
Mbah Sadiman, the Figure Behind the 11,000 Plants on the Slopes of Mount Lawu.
Sadiman or familiarly called Mbah Sadiman (68) is a figure who is still active in protecting and caring for the environment around the slopes of Mount Lawu, Central Java. Even though he is no longer young, this does not prevent him from continuing to contribute to protecting the environment. For more than 20 years or since 1996, Sadiman has devoted himself as a silent worker in restoring ecosystems on the slopes of Mount Lawu. At least 250 hectares of land in Gendol Hill and Ampyang Hill, on the slopes of Mount Lawu, he has planted more than 11 thousand plants. This stems from his anxiety due to environmental damage, logging and forest looting by residents and impacting the lives of their own residents. The old man did everything himself, without pay. ," Sadiman said in a written statement by Head of BNPB Regional Head Agus Wibowo, Monday (26/8). Various plants, especially banyan trees, make the village abundant in water even though the area is entering the dry season. He chose the banyan tree because it has the advantage of being an erosion-preventing plant. Apart from that, the banyan tree which has been planted since 1996 underneath gives rise to springs.
Now the residents of Geneng Village on the slopes of Mount Lawu have felt the hard work of Mbah Sadiman. The local community gets free and independent water supply for more than 340 families. In fact, before that there had been a severe fire that had hit Geneng Village, Bulukerto District, Wonogiri Regency, drought during the dry season, flooding during the rainy season. As a result, farmers do not get enough water for their crops and residents have difficulty getting water. Thanks to his concern and persistent effort in carrying out reforestation, Sadiman received an award in the form of Appreciation for Inspiring Human Support from BNPB. He received the award in Geneng Village, Bulukerto District, Wonogiri, Central Java on Sunday (25/8). Deputy for Prevention of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Lilik Kurniawan said that what Sadiman had done deserved to be emulated by all Indonesian people. He asked the community to continue protecting the environment. "What Mhah Sadiman has done may be an example for all of us and follow in his footsteps in environmental preservation," said Lilik. Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) also provides support and appreciation to Sadiman as a figure who is a persistent environmental savior and selfless spirit even though he has reached old age. BRI supports the movement of planting and caring for trees like what Sadiman has done for the last 23 years.
