Task 9_Life in the Past

Gambar
Throughout history, human societies have undergone significant transformations, from the emergence of ancient civilizations to the Industrial Revolution and beyond. As a result, life in the past was marked by a great deal of diversity, both across time periods and geographical regions. While it is difficult to generalize about life in the past, there are some common threads that can be observed. One of the defining features of life in the past was the prevalence of hierarchies and social structures that determined a person's place in society. In ancient civilizations such as those in Egypt, Greece, and Rome, social classes were often based on birth and were reinforced by laws and customs. Slavery was also common during this time, with many societies relying on enslaved individuals for labor in agriculture, mining, and other industries. The Middle Ages in Europe were marked by feudalism, a system in which the king granted land to lords in exchange for their loyalty and service. Peas...

Almost Half of the World Lives in Cities According to OECD.org The population living in cities, high density places of at least 50,000 inhabitants, has more than doubled over the last 40 years, going from 1.5 billion in 1975 to 3.5 billion in 2015. Almost half the world’s population (48%) lives in cities, a quarter live in rural areas (24%), and the remaining people live in towns & semi-dense areas (28%). While the proportion of city dwellers has consistently grown, it remains lowest in low income countries. In these countries, the population share of rural areas is still highest, representing 28% of the population, but it is shrinking faster than elsewhere. Globally, urbanization is spreading. Towns are increasingly growing into cities and suburbs are being absorbed by expanding cities. What Does the Future Hold for City and Rural Populations? Until 2050, city populations are projected to keep rapidly growing, from 3.5 billion in 2015 to 5 billion in 2050, which corresponds to an ...

Task 2_Communication

Gambar
Every culture around the world has different customs and ways of communicating. When you learn to communicate in a language, you learn a lot of rules. You learn what kind of greetings to use in different situations. For example, in English, we say "Hi!" in an informal situation. In a more formal situation, we shake hands and say "How do you do?" In China, a traditional greeting is "Have you eaten today?" After that, there are rules for making small talk when you meet a new person. People in different cultures also have different ways of using their bodies to communicate. But there's one kind of communication that's the same everywhere. A smile can always connect people. Language is one of the features of humanity that sets the species apart from others on Earth, as far as scientists are aware. Languages are necessarily systematic, meaning that they are bound by rules. This mechanism has been instrumental in allowing humans to communicate with each ...
